Born of Grace: Becoming a Child of God
Just as a child is born naturally into a human family, so too are we spiritually born into God's family, becoming His children. In John 3:3, Jesus tells Nicodemus that unless we are born again, we cannot see the Kingdom of God. Then in verse 5, He explains that this new birth must be “of water and the Spirit”. Without it, we cannot enter God's Kingdom.
There’s a sacred shift that happens when a soul meets Jesus. Not just a change in belief, but a rebirth of identity. To become a child of God is not earned, inherited, or achieved. It is received. It is grace.
Scripture tells us, “But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name” (John 1:12, KJV). Belief in Christ is the doorway. Not belief as mere agreement, but belief that surrenders, trusts, and welcomes Him into our hearts.
When we place our faith in Jesus acknowledging our need, repenting of sin, and receiving His gift of salvation, we are adopted into the family of God. Not as distant relatives or tolerated guests, but as beloved sons and daughters. “Ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father” (Romans 8:15, KJV). That word Abba is intimate. It’s the cry of a child who knows they are safe.
A New Name, A New Nature
When God calls us His children, He also calls us to reflect His character. We are invited to grow in holiness, to walk in love, and to bear the fruit of His Spirit. Not to earn His favour, because we already have it.
And when life feels heavy, when identity feels blurred by failure or fatigue, this truth remains:
“Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God” 1 John 3:1, KJV
It’s a love that lifts, restores, and never lets go.
You Belong
If you’ve placed your trust in Jesus, you are a child of God. Fully known. Fully loved. Forever held.
And if you’re still searching, still wondering, know that the Father’s arms are open. He’s not waiting for perfection. He’s waiting for your yes.
Joyful Heart
John 3:3 [KJV] Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
John 3:5 [KJV] Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
Romans 8:15-16 [KJV] For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, ‘Abba, Father.’ The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.”
Galatians 3:26 For you are all children of God through faith in Christ Jesus.
2 Corinthians 6:18 I will be a Father to you, and you will be My sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.
1 John 3:1 See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!
